FAQ's

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Q. What colours are available?
A. Graphic Glass offers a comprehensive range of over 700 colours, including flat opaque, metallic, pearls and sparkle finishes. We also offer a colour matching service.

Q. Can samples be veiwed?
A. Yes, visit our showroom at 11 a Ra Ora Drive, Rast Tamaki, Auckland, or contact our offices and request a colour of choice from a popular fan deck and we will dispatch a suitable colour as soon as possible. If you prefer to stop in at the Home Ideas Centre on The Strand, Parnell, you will also find our most popular standard colours displayed at our stand in Aisle 1.

Q. What type of Glass is used?
A. The Graphic Glass coating system can be applied to virtually any type of glass. Generally, for wall lining applications such as splashbacks, we would use 5mm Clear Float (annealed or toughened). However, in some instances we may advise the use of Diamante “low-iron” glass in order to get particular accuracy with a light colour.

Q. How is Graphic Glass fixed to the wall?
A. Our panels can be fixed with concealed fixings such as adhesives and tapes, or by a wide range of attractive stainless steel mechanical fixings, depending on your requirements.

Q. Is Graphic Glass product transparent or opaque?
A. Unless we are specifically asked otherwise, our panels are always completely opaque when held up to a solid surface.

Q. How does one obtain a price for Graphic Glass?
A. Due to the complexity of pricing with so many variables, the best solution is to simply fax our office with a sketch showing dimensions and special requirements such as edgework, power-points and installation etc and we will return a firm quote to your office immediately.

Q. Is there any requirement for "special fire board" behind the glass?
A. No, following a recent amendment to the gas standard NZS 5261:2003, 5mm toughened glass ahered to paper faced gypsum wallboard does comply with the standard. In most instances, there is no longer any requirement for fire-rated board behind the glass. Please contact howard@graphicglass.co.nz if you have any queries on this matter.

Q. Is Graphic Glass backed up with a warrantee?
A. Yes, we offer a 10-year warrantee against the coatings delaminating from the glass. The next section discusses the tests that form the basis of our warrantee.

Q. What size panels can be produced?
A. Our process is limited by the size of glass stock sheets and the furnace dimensions where toughened glass is required. For toughened glass, 3900mm is the longest currently available.

Q. How are powerpoints dealt with?
A. A rectangular cutout is made in the glass slightly smaller than the size of the plastic cover allowing the electrical component to screw up against the glass thus covering the edges of the cutout. Power points need to be positioned at least 50mm from the edge of the glass to allow for toughening.

PRODUCT TESTING

Below is a summary of a series of independent tests carried out on glass panels coated with the Graphic Glass coating System. A full copy of the tests documents and results are available from our offices.

A series of tests were carried out on coated glass panels to assess the quality of the coating. The panels were coated one side only with a 65% gloss. Air Dry System Colours submitted were Red, Black, White and Yellow, as representative, and where elevated temperatures were used in the test programme, toughened glass was provided.

CONCLUSION

It is my opinion, that the results obtained by a comprehensive schedule of short-term tests on the 4 colours submitted, demonstrate that the coating is superior to most factory-applied coatings, used in architectural applications. Such coatings normally are provided with the added benefits of stoving sophisticated pretreatments and primers, to ensure optimum adhesion and durability. Further, in all of the 11 tests carried out, no instance of deterioration of the coating was recorded. All 4 colours performed equally.

FIXING

Concealed (Generally recommended for Splashbacks)

Generally, Graphic Glass panels are glue fixed to the wall using a combination of double-sided sponge tapes and Rhodasil V60 Clear neutral cure silicone, applied to the reverse (coated side) of the panel in thin vertical strips. When placed against a wall, the generally opaque coatings will not show the adhesives.

MECHANICAL

A full range of pins, studs, stand-off pillars and buttons, in a variety of finishes are vailable from Graphic Glass.

DESIGN GUIDELINES

Tolerances - Standard tolerances of +/- 2mm on all dimensions apply
